The teaching staff of the Faculty of Computers, Informatics and Microelectronics of the Technical University of Moldova — associate professor, PhD Victoria Bobicev, associate professor, PhD Daniela Istrati and assistant professor Rodica Braniște — are currently participating in a research internship at the “Mihai Drăgănescu” Institute for Artificial Intelligence Research of the Romanian Academy, Bucharest.
The internship is being carried out within the framework of the ADAMo – Automatic Detection of Artificial Intelligence-Generated Texts from Moldova and Romania project, a bilateral Moldovan-Romanian initiative aimed at developing advanced solutions for the automatic identification of texts generated by artificial intelligence.
During the visit, the FCIM researchers had meetings with Prof. Dr. Paul-Andrei Păun, the director of the institute, Dr. Verginica Barbu Mititelu, deputy director and scientific researcher II, and Dr. Elena Irimia, scientific researcher II. The discussions focused on the research directions of the project, the working methodology and the consolidation of scientific collaboration between the institutions.
The main objective of the ADAMo project is to develop a classifier capable of automatically identifying texts generated by artificial intelligence. Although the proposed methods capitalize on the particularities of the Romanian language, the developed solution can also be adapted for other languages, by training similar neural models.
An important element of the project is the use of the CoRoLa corpus, the representative corpus of the contemporary Romanian language, which contains over a billion words from written and oral texts. It will be expanded with at least 15 million words of quality texts produced in the Republic of Moldova, thus contributing to a better representation of the varieties of the Romanian language used in both countries.
The ADAMo project is funded under Program 5.8 – European and International Cooperation, Subprogram 5.8.3 – Bilateral/Multilateral, aiming to support joint research projects between Romania and the Republic of Moldova, develop scientific partnerships and expand academic collaboration networks.
The participation of FCIM researchers in this internship represents an important opportunity to exchange experience, consolidate collaboration with the “Mihai Drăgănescu” Institute for Artificial Intelligence Research and develop innovative solutions in the fields of artificial intelligence and natural language processing.
