The Technical University of Moldova successfully hosted the 15th edition of the International Student Competition “Microelectronic Systems Engineering – Sergiu Rădăuțan” – 2026. The elite event brought together the most motivated and excellent students from the Republic of Moldova and Romania, who demonstrated a remarkable innovative vision in cutting-edge technologies. This prestigious competition honors the memory and remarkable scientific legacy of Academician Sergiu Rădăuțan, founder and first rector of our institution, a visionary who paved the way for cutting-edge research in microelectronics and semiconductor physics. Following the rigorous evaluation of the submitted projects and the jury’s deliberations, the winners of the 15th edition of the competition were designated, both in the Electronic Systems Engineering section and in the Biomedical Systems Engineering section.

Section II, dedicated to “Biomedical Systems Engineering”, brought together the most ingenious and motivated student minds from the Republic of Moldova and Romania, with the projects presented standing out for their academic excellence and direct clinical applicability.

In Section II, focused on biomedical systems, the projects brought advanced solutions with a direct impact on patient rehabilitation and modern clinical management. The prototypes developed include robotic pediatric exoskeletal systems designed to recover locomotor function in cases of paraplegia, as well as multimodal platforms that use video analysis based on artificial intelligence for the precise assessment of the degree of fatigue. In addition, the emphasis on medical robotics was materialized in the development of smart gloves designed to effectively assist in the rehabilitation of motor function in hands affected by trauma. The entire spectrum of works entered in the competition covers essential directions of modern bioengineering, proposing innovative devices for cardiovascular monitoring, air quality control in clinical environments, ECG signal simulation and advanced multispectral diagnostic systems.

The outstanding success of these works is largely due to the coordinating professors, who provided permanent guidance and mentorship at the highest level. Through their dedication, these mentors transformed the students’ theoretical ideas into functional prototypes, capable of improving the quality of life of patients. This 100th anniversary edition demonstrates that participation in such international competitions represents the perfect launching pad for students eager to test their skills in front of great industry leaders. We strongly encourage all young geniuses to boldly follow their passion and actively participate in future editions, transforming their knowledge and innovative ideas into real technological solutions for society.

The rigorous evaluation of the projects entered in the competition was ensured by a jury consisting of renowned experts in the field, leaders of top companies and specialists in the field of microelectronic systems and biomedical systems engineering. Under the leadership of the jury president, prof. univ., dr. hab.
