The history of the faculty begins with the founding of the public institution called the Technical University of Moldova, but an essential mark is considered the year of 1967 – the forming of the Faculty of Electrophysics.
The scientific activity in this domain has begun with the founding of the Polytechnic Institute, in the departments of Automatics and Computing as well as Industrial Electronics, initially included in the Faculty of Electrotechnics.
The efforts of the first rector of the Polytechnic Institute of Chișinău, Sergiu Rădăuțan, are remarkable for the initiation of a new scientific direction of great success even nowadays – Microelectronics, it has been done in the beginnings, in 1965, by opening a new specialty – semiconductor devices.

Automatics and Telemechanics
The founding of the specialty “Automatics and Telemechanics” (today – “Automatics and Informatics”) within the State University of Moldova.
Polytechnic Institute of Chișinău
By establishing the Polytechnic Institute of Chișinău based on the existing faculties of the State University and of the Faculty of Electrification of the Agricultural Institute of Chișinău. The founding of the Faculty of Electrotechnics.

The department of Automatics and Computing has been founded together with the institution.
Department of Industrial Electronics
By founding the Department of Industrial Electronics, the training of the engineering staff in electronics and microelectronics has begun.

The founding of the specialty “Semiconductor Devices” (today – “Microelectronics and Nanotechnologies).
Faculty of Electrophysics

The founding of the Faculty of Radioelectronics on the basis of the programs of the respective domain present in the Faculty of Electrophysics.
