FCIM-UTM visit to UTCN: boost to research and innovation

The Technical University of Moldova (UTM) marks a new important stage in its academic and scientific collaboration through the study visit of representatives of the Faculty of Computers, Informatics and Microelectronics (FCIM) to the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca (UTCN), held between April 28 and May 2, 2025, under the aegis of the prestigious ERASMUS+ program.

The UTM delegation, led by the dean of FCIM, associate professor, dr. Dumitru CIORBĂ, together with the vice-dean, Ana ȚURCAN and the doctoral students Adriana URSU and Petru CERVAC, was cordially received by the partners from UTCN. Under the coordination of prof., dr. eng. Radu Adrian MUNTEANU from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, UTCN, the two young UTM researchers will benefit from the Erasmus+ project of scientific and logistical support in cutting-edge research: Adriana URSU will explore reconfigurable computing architectures for real-time video images, and Petru CERVAC will research a categorical framework for the analysis of algorithms. This immersion in an academic environment of excellence, together with established experts, represents a unique opportunity to consolidate their research directions and bring a new perspective to the doctoral programs of UTM.

But the impact of this visit goes beyond the individual scope of the PhD students. The meticulously organized program facilitated a constructive academic dialogue and laid the foundations for far-reaching institutional collaborations. High-level meetings, including with Prof. Dr. Eng. Adrian Petru GROZA, Vice-Rector for IT Infrastructure and Digitalization of UTCN, targeted strategic areas such as IT infrastructure and digitalization. UTCN’s initiative to create an Institute of Artificial Intelligence aroused great interest, with extraordinary prospects for collaboration in joint projects, exchanges of expertise and academic mobilities in the field.

The constructive dialogue continued with the deans of the faculties of Automation and Computers, Electronics, Telecommunications and Information Technology, and Electrical Engineering within UTCN – prof. univ., dr. eng. Vlad MUREȘAN, prof., dr. eng. Ovidiu POP, conf., dr. eng. Andrei Cristinel CZIKER, as well as with prof. hab. dr. eng. Eva DULF, leader of the ADAPTED Research Group. These meetings explored the possibilities of developing a solid framework of institutional collaboration between FCIM-UTM and similar faculties in Cluj-Napoca, in cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence, reconfigurable architectures, automation and software engineering.

The visit to the UTCN Hub, an ultra-modern academic space, equipped with high-performance research laboratories, highlighted the potential of interdisciplinary collaboration. This environment conducive to innovation inspires and motivates the academic community to explore new frontiers of knowledge and develop projects with a significant impact.

The reiteration of the pre-existing academic links between UTM and UTCN, amplified by this Erasmus+ mobility, demonstrates the commitment of the two institutions to excellence and the training of generations of engineers capable of meeting the challenges of the future. This new stage of the bilateral partnership promises to generate valuable results in academic and scientific terms, opening up new opportunities for mobility, research and innovation for UTM students and teaching staff.

Appreciating the openness, hospitality and remarkable professionalism of the UTCN partners, the UTM representatives expressed their confidence that this strategic partnership will constitute a constant source of inspiration and an essential step in the internationalization of the research of the Technical University of Moldova.
