The partnership spanning nearly two decades between the Technical University of Moldova and Allied Testing continues to evolve through new forms of collaboration. This time, the cooperation has expanded into applied research in the field of artificial intelligence, driven by a genuine business challenge.
While developing a solution based on RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation), Allied Testing specialists—working alongside the university team and participating students—analyzed and compared various approaches using both cloud-hosted and locally hosted language models. The research spanned approximately six months and included an analysis of how techniques such as embedding fine-tuning and LoRA could help improve outcomes.
UTM provided access to the necessary infrastructure and engaged a team of motivated students who had the opportunity to work alongside industry experts and participate directly in the research and experimentation process.
The next step in this collaboration is to transform the accumulated results and experience into a student training program, which will be implemented at the university with the involvement of Allied Testing specialists. This will allow students to learn from the questions, experiments, tested solutions, and real-world challenges analyzed together.
For FCIM, such initiatives demonstrate the vital importance of collaboration between the university and the business sector in shaping future specialists. Lasting partnerships offer students not only academic knowledge but also the opportunity to participate in real-world projects, applied research, and the development of industry-relevant solutions.
