Partnership for Excellence: Visit of UTM Professors to the “Nicolae Bălcescu” Land Forces Academy in Sibiu

International collaboration is a key priority for maintaining competitive standards in higher education. In this context, the Technical University of Moldova continues to promote academic excellence and innovation, this time through the visit of a group of 12 scientific and academic staff members from the Faculty of Computers, Informatics, and Microelectronics (FCIM) and the Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications (FET) to the “Nicolae Bălcescu” Land Forces Academy in Sibiu.

The visit was organized as part of the project “Modernizing Curricula to Develop Professional Competencies in Information Security, Information Management, and Data Science to Enhance the Competitiveness and Data Security of SMEs/DATASEA.”

Under the guidance of the deans of the two involved faculties—Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dumitru CIORBĂ (FCIM) and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lilia SAVA (FET)—UTM professors had the opportunity to explore the modern infrastructure and innovative teaching methods implemented at the prestigious institution in Sibiu. They participated in a series of academic and exploratory activities:

  1. Campus Tour – Led by Col. Barbu RĂZVAN, the group explored the Academy’s library and laboratories, modern facilities that support academic excellence and cutting-edge research.
  2. Presentation of the Communications, Information Technology, and Cyber Defense Department – Under the coordination of Prof. Dr. Eng. Simona MICLĂUȘ, the department offered a detailed overview of its contributions to developing technical and informational competencies in line with the Bologna Process requirements. The dialogue highlighted the importance of adapting curricula to new technologies and labor market demands.
  3. Presentation of the Technical Sciences Department – Assoc. Prof. Dr. Romana OANCEA showcased the research and teaching activities of the department, emphasizing the innovative methods used in technical education. UTM professors had the opportunity to analyze the integration of advanced technologies into teaching activities.

These activities provided a valuable opportunity for the exchange of experiences and best practices between the two academic institutions, contributing to the strengthening of international partnerships.

The visit played a significant role in enhancing students’ competencies in the fields of information technologies and cyber security. This exchange of experiences supports the implementation of the objectives of the DATASEA project, positively impacting the quality of education and research at UTM.

Through this visit, UTM’s commitment to academic excellence and the development of internationally competitive study programs was highlighted. The coordination by Deans Dumitru CIORBĂ and Lilia SAVA ensured the maximum utilization of opportunities for interinstitutional collaboration.
