Students from the Faculty of Computers, Informatics and Microelectronics (FCIM) at UTM continue to distinguish themselves through their engagement, initiative, and ability to turn real-world problems into digital solutions.
On October 3–4, the “BEST Minds 2026” hackathon—themed “Build. Analyze. Survive.”—took place at Tekwill. Participants were tasked with identifying a current issue in the Republic of Moldova and proposing a functional, relevant solution within just two days.
The results are particularly gratifying: all three winning spots went to teams that included FCIM students from the Software Engineering, Information Security, and Information Technology study programs.
1st Place – Team “News,” Project “Factholic”
Software Engineering students Serghei Carnavschi and Natan Katsif, together with Eduard Chiabur, developed “Factholic”—an AI agent that tracks the origin of an online statement, identifies the initial source, and shows how the information changed as it was reshared. The solution is useful for everyday users, journalists, and companies alike.
2nd Place – Team “Cara’s Dreams”
The team—comprising Information Technology students Daniel Crivoi, Ion Guțan, Dumitru Micleușanu, and Grigore Raevschi, along with Information Security student Eduard Sestacov—proposed a solution for digitizing intercity transport. The project envisions a unified map providing real-time information on routes, minibus locations, and estimated arrival times. 3rd Place – Team BSB Harvest, AgriTech AI project
Students Victor Coșelev, Ovidiu Crestin, Elena Lozovanu, Stanislav Puică, and Viorelina Ciobanu (majoring in Information Security) developed AgriTech AI—a digital agronomic assistant that analyzes soil and climate data, estimates suitable crops, projected yields, and potential profits, and provides personalized recommendations to farmers.
These three projects clearly demonstrate what it means to apply knowledge in real-world contexts: combating disinformation, digitizing transportation, and supporting farmers through the use of data and artificial intelligence.
We congratulate the FCIM students on this remarkable achievement and on how they leverage their skills in competitions that foster innovation, creativity, and an entrepreneurial spirit!
We are delighted to see our students not only participating in such challenges but also distinguishing themselves through relevant ideas and solutions with genuine practical potential.
